What this does
Scan & Grade reads a photograph or scan of a filled-in OMR sheet and grades it automatically, without a dedicated scanner. Upload an image of the completed sheet, tell the tool how many questions, options and roll-number digits your layout uses, and it locates the printed corner marks, straightens and aligns the image, then works out which bubble is darkened for every question. The detected answers are checked against your answer key and scored instantly, the same way as the Check Answers page. It works from a phone photo or a flatbed scan, so no special hardware is needed.

This page is for anyone who has already printed and conducted a paper-based OMR exam and now needs to grade the filled sheets without typing every answer in by hand or buying an optical scanner. Frequently asked questions
How should I photograph or scan a filled sheet for best accuracy?
Capture the whole sheet straight-on and flat, in good even lighting, with all four printed corner marks clearly visible and uncropped. Skew beyond roughly 5 degrees, glare, or a cropped corner can prevent the tool from aligning the page correctly.
Does it work with any OMR sheet, or only ones made on this site?
It's designed to read sheets generated by this site's Generate page, since it relies on the printed corner alignment marks and the same layout settings, questions, options, roll digits, that you select when uploading the scan.
Why is the scan option unavailable on my server?
Automatic scanning needs the PHP GD image extension enabled on the web server. If it isn't available, use the Check Answers page to grade from typed or CSV responses instead, or ask your hosting provider to enable GD.
